Jazz in the Woods - Gus Moberg and the Alley Shadows
The Alley Shadows were sprung out of the idea of taking the atmosphere of the music of Tom Waits, adding the spice of jazz improvisation, and sprinkle on top of it the darkness of Scandinavian winter, all in order to make a functional and obvious musical unit that would do well at any pub swimming in cigarette smoke and whiskey fumes. Musicians that seemed suitable for the project were asked, and fairly soon the quartet making the Alley Shadows come to life was formed. The music started out as compositions built on a foundation of standard jazz with ornaments of the more modern improvisational music we have around us today. A little time went by after the Alley Shadows first performed, new inspiration made for new ideas to come to life and the music took a turn to now be built around more adventurous compositions and improvisation. The Alley Shadows that has been put together by guitar player Gus Moberg consist of saxophone/keyboard player and composer Evan Cribb, drummer Evan Petkau, and bass player Ben Putt. The music spans from more traditional, cigarette-stained compositions by Gus Moberg to the very adventurous and heavy music penned down by Evan Cribb. In between can be found covered songs, carefully picked out by the band. All of this make up the experience that is brought by the quartet that goes by the name of The Alley Shadows.
