Description

Jewellery Evening (Intermediate Level)
Date: September 20 - November 22, 2017 (Wednesdays, 8 weeks)
Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Instructor: Lynda Lou MacIntyre
Fee: $120 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $138 plus HST (Non Members)

This eight week class will have you creating your own handmade jewellery that incorporates set stones and will leave you anxious to learn more. With the basic skills already under your belt, you are ready to stretch your creative imagination and take on a few more technical skills.

Now is the time to learn sweat soldering, fusing, cuttle fish and water casting while creating surface texture and other skills. Breathtaking jewellery has been produced by students in this class, self-confessed newbies who once couldn’t tell the hot end of a blowtorch!

Studio tools and equipment will be provided for students to incorporate a wide range of new techniques into their jewellery creations. Tuition fees include the use of all tools and equipment. Students will be required to purchase their own metals, which are available at the Centre. (No class on October 25 & November 1)

Lynda Lou MacIntyre - From a young age, Lynda Lou knew that she wanted to be an artist. Growing up in a large eclectic family with the beauty of Cape Breton Island as their backdrop, her artistic aspirations blossomed.

Lynda Lou studied at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston before enrolling at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in Halifax, where she completed her Fine Arts and Education degrees. She had a successful career teaching art on Cape Breton Island for 30 years.

Inspired by nature and travel, her medium regularly shifts between painting in watercolour or on silk and metalsmithing. She has taught workshops in Italy and is a regular jewellery instructor at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design. In 2006 she was the recipient of the "Excellence in Craft award." Pieces of her diverse collection of work can be found around the island and around the world.
