About this event
This Concert Series was conceived months ago for the 50th Anniversary of the incredible place we know as the Brackendale Art Gallery. We had all hoped that Thor Froslev, who dreamed the BAG into existence, would have been here for this celebration but that wasn’t to be. His spirit will be with us.
Doors at 7pm
Showtime at 8pm
Jim Byrnes is a legendary blues icon, an actor of note, and that artist who lights up every stage with songs and stories, tried and true. Byrnes was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up on the city’s north side. One of his neighbourhood bars had Ike and Tina Turner as the house band. As a teenager going to music clubs, he and his buddy were often the only white people in the place. Byrnes has been on the blues highway for over 45 years. Over this time he has had the great good fortune to appear with a virtual who’s who of the blues, from Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker to Taj Mahal and Robert Cray. His evocative, smoky vocals are found in a truth that doesn’t come overnight. In 1981 he released Burnin’, followed in 1987 with I’ve Turned My Nights into Days and 1995’s Juno-Award winning That River. This year Bluesman Jim Byrnes received the Order of Canada
