Description

Artist talk by Jimmy Limit
Monday, March 13
1 – 2 pm
AA304, Arts & Administration Building, U of T Scarborough

Join us for a free, public talk by Graham Fagen as part of the Visiting Artist Lecture Series, co-presented by the Doris McCarthy Gallery, and Studio program in the Department of Arts, Culture & Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

St. Catharines-based artist Jimmy Limit uses photography to explore the tension between image and object. Adopting the language of commercial photography and advertising he creates highly graphic compositions that are both familiar and strangely illegible, causing the viewer to question the motives of the imagery.

His work has been exhibited internationally including group and solo shows at Albright Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, Temnikova & Kasela, Tallinn Estonia, Rodman Hall St. Catharines, Clint Roenisch Gallery, Toronto and Printer Matter, NYC. His work has been published in Canadian Art and Border Crossings, and has been featured on the covers of C Magazine and cura. A series of photos is currently installed at The Bentway in Toronto as part of Constructions of the Everyday.

Food and refreshments will be provided. Students who are attending for the additional or required marks for their courses will need to sign-in upon arrival at the event.
