Event description

Description

Gallery Enemy Prey Ignore proudly presents an evening with Joel Peter Witkin. Join us at the historic Revue Cinema for an intimate look at the work of this highly (in)famous photographer whose art has achieved cult status.

Excerpts from Thomas Marino's re-released documentary, An Objective Eye, follow a very special, rare appearance by the Master himself. Mr. Witkin will give an intense overview of his life's work, complete with images of past and present projects. A brief Q+A period will allow the audience to explore the timeless and haunting visions that have inspired Witkin's art for well over five decades.

Joel Peter Witkin's photography has been featured in several monographs, including Joel-Peter Witkin, A Retrospective (1995); Harms Way (1994); Joel-Peter Witkin, Twelve Photographs in Gravure (1994), and Gods of Heaven and Earth (1989). His work is represented in significant museum collections internationally and nationwide, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, The National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Centre Georges Pompidou. A three-time recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts, and the International Center of Photography Fourth Annual Award, he was also decorated with the Commandeur d’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France.
