Johnny Loaring Classic 2023

The Johnny Loaring Classic (formerly known as the Windsor Open) is a high-performance track & field meet held at the University of Windsor’s Alumni Stadium. The event was rebranded in 2017 to honour Johnny Loaring, who is Windsor’s only Olympic medalist in track and field. Johnny led a memorable life on and off the oval. He competed internationally for Canada several times at the British Empire and Pan-American Games. In 1936, he broke two Canadian records at the national championships in Montreal en route to winning a silver medal in the men’s 400m hurdles at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Within the same week, he would also place sixth individually in the 400m distance and anchored Canada to a fourth-place finish in the 4 x 400m relay.
