Sarah Jones, Curator of Jones Contemporary and Jones Auction House, presents a talk about Nova Scotia artist, Maud Lewis (1901-1970). We will explore Lewis’ technique, her approach to subject matter and landscape, what makes her work compelling to so many viewers and collectors, and how her life and work has been presented in media and within Canadian art institutions.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sarah Jones (BA, MA Art History, Queen’s University) is a visual artist, art historian, and curator. She conducted her graduate research on twentieth-century Canadian art and Nova Scotia artist, Maud Lewis, and recently participated in a panel discussion at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia about Lewis’ work in the marketplace. Sarah teaches art history occasionally at University of New Brunswick Saint John.
