About this Event

Bernie M. Farber explores the history and root causes of the unprecedented rise in white supremacist extremism in Canada and world wide.

Speaking to both the power of words and actions, Mr. Farber will examine the recent increase in extremist violence and hate-motivated murders in Canada and the United States. From the seeds of genocide planted during the Holocaust and watered once again years later in Rwanda, the Sudan and the former Yugoslavia, the talk will cover the evolution of modern hateful extremism. The address will also look at solutions and remedies that utilize dialogue and community building as critical elements for staving off the dangerous effects of racism and extremism.

About the Speaker: Bernie M. Farber is the former CEO of Canadian Jewish Congress, the Paloma Foundation and the Mosaic Institute. Considered one of Canadian Jewry’s most recognized and effective representatives, his progressive views on human and civil rights, inter-faith/Indigenous dialogue, and anti-racism work can be found articulated in academic journals, Canada's foremost newspapers, on radio, television and social media. Mr. Farber is the recipient of numerous awards for his human rights work including The Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Sovereigns Medal, the Canadian Centennial Medal, the Special Commendation from the Royal Order of St. John, the Charles Zaionz Award for Jewish Communal Service amongst others. Today, he is a sought after social justice consultant and speaker. He Chairs the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, Community Living's Rights and Ethics Committee and sits on the Advisory Committee of Human Rights Watch Canada.
