Julian Gutierrez was born in Holguin, Cuba. At the end of teh 1990s, Julian was part of the band Mezcla, and toured with them in Europe, Mexico, and in the United-States. In 2001, he moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec. He started to play with the Afro-Cuban group Habana Cafe, becoming the director of the band, as well as its pianist, singer and composer / arranger. He participated to many musical festivals in Quebec such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Rimouski jazz festival, the Festival de jazz Etc de Levis, les Francofolies of Montreal, the Festival d’été de Quebec Festival FAOT at Sonora Mexique, and many more. Julian completed his bachelor’s degree at University of Sherbrooke, his master’s at University Laval and is presently completing his doctorate at University Laval.
For this Cuban Jazz concert, Julian will be accompanied by Noedy Hechavarria Duharte at the saxophone, and Hector Ramos at the percussion, Kelby at the drums and Peter at the bass.
