Description

Improv with Darryl

Whether you’re trying to break into the performing arts, hone a

creative edge, or simply become more comfortable in front of new people. You are

introduced to classic improv terminology and learn the basics of improvisation.

Spontaneity, listening, acceptance, confidence building, collaborative creativity and

teamwork are skills built in this class. The people are supportive and there’s never any

pressure to do things you’re uncomfortable with. Have a lot of laughs and meet new

friends! This class is perfect for you if you are brand new to Improv!

Darryl has taught, adjudicated and performed across the continent from teaching improv

at Institute for Child Study / Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at The University

of Toronto, Camp Eclipse Leadership Camp, Labrador Regional High School Drama

Festival, Ontario Educational Leadership Centre (Ministry of Education), Labrador

Creative Arts Festival, Newfoundland & Labrador High School Drama festival and the

SAK Improv festival in Orlando, Florida. Darryl was a founding member of the Queer

Comedy Collective sketch group. Darryl's screen credits (selected) include Eugene

Levy's series SCHITT'S CREEK (CBC/POP), ENEMY (Jake Gyllenhaal & Oscar

nominated Director Denis Villeneuve), RICK MERCER REPORT (CBC), Stephen King

adaptation 11/22/63 produced by J.J. Abrams starring James Franco (HULU), MAN

SEEKING WOMAN with Jay Baruchel (FXX), DAMIEN (A&E), LOOK AGAIN (Lead Feature).

The 519’s Kids Action and Arts Space (KAAS) is a free, drop-in program that offers kids who are 6 to 9 years old a fun place to connect, meet friends and new peers and explore cool opportunities, starting January 20th until December 15th of 2018.

When: the first and third Saturday of each month, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

In 2018, The 519 is collaborating with new and returning community artists and educators to facilitate arts and movement-based activities for queer, trans, and gender nonbinary kids and the kids of queer and trans families.

Throughout the year participants will explore activities like improv, drama, story writing and telling, visual arts and music. This time around, more movement-based activities such as cycling, hiking, skateboarding, yoga, bouldering, parkour, social circus, ice-skating and dancing will be weaved into KAAS programming. As always, no experience in these activities is required – just a desire to try new things and meet new people!

Collectively, we strive to create a safer, supportive and inspiring space where everyone – from facilitators to participants – can bring their full selves into the space, feel celebrated and continue to develop and strengthen their skills in self-expression.
