This is a story of friendship and compassion.
Two historical moments in Japanese-Turkish relations are connected in this epic film; the tragic 1890 maritime accident of the Ottoman frigate Ertuğrul off the coast of Japan where survivors were helped by local people from Wakayama; and the rescue in 1985 of Japanese nationals by a Turkish Airlines team during the Iraq-Iran war. Director Mitsutoshi Tanaka's masterpiece was nominated for Japan Academy Awards in 10 categories, including Best Film and Best Director, and won the awards for Best Sound and Best Art Direction.
Co-presentation by The Japan Foundation, Toronto and Ertuğrul Saves the World
