Event description

Description

Karen Armstrong is one of the world's leading commentators on religious affairs. She appears in conversation to discuss her new book, The Lost Art of Scripture, her exploration of how scripture shapes ideas about social justice and identity.

While the significance of scripture may not be immediately obvious in our secular world, Karen Armstrong argues that its misunderstanding is perhaps the root cause of most of today's controversies over religion.

Throughout this timely and important book, Armstrong presents an historical re-examination of scripture, as a method (not for the spread of war or hate, but) for the individual to connect with the divine, to transcend their physical existence, and to experience a higher level of consciousness that helped them to engage with the world in more meaningful and compassionate ways.

Conversation hosted by foreign correspondent and host of CBC Radio's Ideas Nahlah Ayed.

Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
