Kazoo! & The Central Student Association Present:
Cots
Cots is the project of Guelph artist Steph Yates. Steph has been making incredible music in Guelph for more than a decade, in Esther Grey, the Pheramones, Cupcake Ductape and many others, but her latest project, Cots, is surely the pinnacle of Steph’s musical output. At once airy, dreamy, poignant, emotional, and sonically daring, Cots is like nothing else, and we are eagerly anticipating Steph being joined by her all-star band to soothe and amaze all of those lucky enough to catch her set at Kazoo!’s opening night.
Shn Shn
Shn Shn is the latest project from Toronto’s Shanika Maria. When we first heard it, she completely blew away everyone at Kazoo! away with her spacious, atmospheric ambient electronic pop - and live it’s even more immersive and impressive. We are beyond excited to have Shn Shn opening the festival this year, so be sure to show up early and allow Shn Shn to take you on a cosmic journey.
L Roe ft. Truth Is…
Guelph's Lindsay Roe is a dancer, choreographer, musician, artist +++ (so many pluses). With a footing in jazz, L Roe blends a bedrock of pedestrian, hip hop and house, weaving in original found gestures and movements from the bodies she works with. Lindsay is a watcher and adaptor, always connected to the world and people around her and constantly creating from real moments. Her work always inspires us and, at Kazoo! Fest 2022, she will be presenting 3 works accompanied by Guelph spoken word titan, Truth Is... -- and we cannot wait.
Truth is... is known for their thunderclap rhythm with a distinctive voice, blending ecstasy and despair. Their passion is only surpassed by a desire to explore & express the truth itself, and this becomes obvious when their poetry is spoken. As a Black, Queer, mother, warrior, poet Truth Is... takes an unique approach to talking about the intricacies of life and related traumas. Their intersectional approach allows for the audience to explore experiences, or lack thereof through an empathetic and compassionate lens, fostering wellness, community, & resistance of shame. Truth is... will be performing alongside a dance performance by L Roe.
