About this Event

Keeping Your Indigenous Identity Workshop led by Sodzi’dzo:wa:’ Damian Webster, Seneca Nation. Damian is the Program Director for Honöta:önih Hënödeyësdahgwa’ at Tonawanda Seneca Nation as well as a part-time adult language instructor. With this workshop we will live through Damian's experience of growing up Ögwe’öweh in the city.

Damian grew up in Buffalo, NY with about 6 Seneca words, no speakers in his family, no cultural markers and surrounded by peers who had no association with Ögwe’öweh ways. He now works for his community and has learned enough language to help teach, run a program and even help with some of the speaking duties at the longhouse.

Open to the public both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous.
