Description

KNOW BY HEART: concert for refugees

••• Join us to support refugee children through the power of Art •••

We are bringing our creativity together in hopes to inspire compassion in you. As thousands of women, men, and children throughout the world seek asylum from war, oppression, poverty and discrimination, we believe inspiring creativity will benefit the world.

All over the world people are seeking hope and safety and many risk their lives to reach countries like our own Canada, and the US. Even so, as they reach safer nations, they are still subject to discrimination and misunderstanding. Families who carry deep pain from traumatic events are in need of compassionate understanding and help.

This is the impetus for our concert. Know By Heart: concert for refugees seeks to gather community to raise awareness and inspire compassion. Twenty-five percent of the event’s proceeds will be donated to an Expressive Arts Therapy group who is working directly with refugee children in Surrey public schools.

Our guest speaker Calla Power is an Expressive Arts Therapist working in Surrey. She will be sharing some of her work and experiences with children from countries such as Syria, Iraq, Burundi, and Congo. Sam Svensk, an Expressive Arts Therapist as well, will be performing a dance piece. Musician and Expressive Arts Therapist Samuel Romero will perform songs from his new EP accompanied by violist and composer Thomas Beckman. Laura Reznek will also be performing songs from her latest release.

The event will also include a Silent Auction featuring artwork from Erica Pang, Diana Victoria Newman, and Samuel Romero. Twenty-five percent of the auction will go toward the Expressive Arts Therapy for Refugees fund.

We hope that by uniting artists, musicians, healers and community in the spirit of compassion inspires in you a sense of shared humanity. Suffering and hardship in this world is inescapable but, as a united humanity we can better help each other, understand each other and work toward love and togetherness.

Admission:

$20 (twenty-five percent donation to EXAT fund)
$25 (same as above but includes “Know By Heart” EP by Samuel Romero)
