Event description

Description

Celebrate Labour Day with a behind-the-scenes tour of union banners from our permanent collection, followed by a banner-making workshop for youth and adults led by special guest artists!

Join WAHC's Program Coordinator, Tara Bursey, as she leads you through a selection of 20th century union banners from the permanent collection of the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre. This informative, up-close collection tour will unpack the materials, symbols, unions and workers represented by these rare and exquisite pieces of workers' heritage.

Following the tour, stick around for a banner making workshop for youth and adults facilitated by special guest artists. Use inspiration from our historic banners towards the creation of your own empowering Labour Day mini-banner using techniques such as screenprinting, embroidery and iron-on transfers. All materials will be provided!

And don’t forget to top your weekend off on Labour Day Monday at the Hamilton and District Labour Council‘s annual Labour Day Parade and Picnic, at Bayfront Park. Join WAHC in the park after the parade.

For more information about this program, contact Tara Bursey, Program Coordinator at tara@wahc-museum.ca or (905) 522-3993 ex. 29.
