Landscapes as Cultural Phenomena Webinar
Event Information
About this Event
Welcome to the first official event hosted by Rhizome Eco-Social Education Society (RESES)! Formed in 2020, RESES is a collaborative organization with a mission to empower individuals and communities by creating inclusive and accessible ecological education programs and demonstration projects.
Our first webinar explores our relationship with nature and land:
Landscapes and human cultures have been shaping one another for millenia. This webinar-style workshop will discuss how this fact is sometimes overlooked when we view Nature and Humans as separate. Using case studies, RESES co-founder, Lucie Bardos, will explore some of the ways that landscapes have historically been shaped by traditional and Indigenous peoples. She will also highlight some of the tensions that exist between environmental and social movements when these human-landscape relationships are not recognized and respected.
She will further discuss some ways that settlers can re-engage in meaningful relationships with nature through art, intuition, and decolinized thinking. Lucie will draw on her personal relationship with landscapes, her academic background in critical sustainability studies, and her training in permaculture design to present a thought provoking webinar.
Her sister, M.Arch candidate, Alice Bardos, will also join the discussion to talk about her Masters project, which explores how architecture, social movements, and waterways intersect.
Permaculture Kelowna member, Megan Berry, will be moderating the discussion afterwards.
LOGISTICS:
The event will be hosted on the free platform Jitsi (operates very similarly to Zoom) and will include a 1hr15min presentation, followed by a moderated 30-45 minute session for questions and discussion.
