Event description
Learn how to use the Laser Cutter.

About this event

LaserLab 101

The laser cutter is a versatile tool that can cut, etch, and engrave a wide variety of materials including wood, cardboard, paper, leather, and even acrylic. In this orientation, you will learn the basics of how a laser cutter works, and how to prepare a digital design for cutting. You will use RetinaEngrave software to control the laser cutter, and you will have the chance to create and cut a small design of your own! Although it's not a requirement, it is strongly recommended that students have some knowledge of 2D vector design or CAD (computer-aided design) software for this class.

Please note, due to COVID-19, the following measures are now in place for this class:

  • Following public health orders, as of September 13th, all participants will be required to have a vaccine passport in order to attend this class.
  • It is recommended that everyone sanitize their hands upon entering the building.
  • Non-medical masks must be worn for the duration of the class. Everyone is required to bring their own masks.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please email us at hello@makerlabs.com with any questions or concerns.

Can I sign up for the member rate?

If you sign up for a membership on the day of the class, you'll receive a refund for the difference between the general and membership class price.

How do I cancel or reschedule my class?

Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees), credits for future classes and orientations, or transferring a ticket to a future date, will only be provided if we are notified by email to hello@makerlabs.com at least 24 hours in advance of the class. For cancellation less than 24 hours before the class, we do not provide a refund, but we do offer a 50% credit towards a future class or orientation. No refunds or credits will be provided for no shows. If transferring a ticket to a future class date, students may only transfer their ticket once before forfeiting their original ticket, even if providing more than 24 hours notice.

What happens if I show up late?

Please arrive 15 minutes before the schedule start of the class so that it can start on time. Attendees arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed in the class.
