Event description

Description

In 2006, singer-songwriter Geoff Berner published How To Be An Accordion Player, the first in a series of instructional booklets with cult publisher Kolakovsky Press of Canada. Since then, the How To Be series has expanded to include Kris Demeanor, Carolyn Mark, and most recently, Rae Spoon. This late-night cabaret will include irreverent readings and performances by each of the authors — with Caroline
Connolly standing in for Carolyn Mark to channel How to be a Boozy Chanteuse.

Geoff Berner

Geoff Berner graduated from the University of British Columbia Creative Writing Program, where he received the Harry and Hilda Smith Foundation scholarship for top undergraduate student. An internationally touring singer/songwriter and accordionist who has released six albums and played in 17 countries, he lives in Vancouver.

Caroline Connolly

Once referred to as “a poor man’s Ann-Margret,” Caroline Connolly is more widely lesser-known as the first Mayor of Value Village. The singer and songwriter of Calgary’s favourite party band, The Lovebullies, she lives in Cochrane, Alberta.

Kris Demeanor

Kris Demeanor is an award-winning songwriter, poet, theatre and film artist. He was the inaugural Poet Laureate of Calgary (2012-14) and co-edited as his legacy project the book The Calgary Project, a compilation of poetry by Calgary writers.

Rae Spoon

Rae Spoon is an award-winning Canadian songwriter and author. Their first book, First Spring Grass Fire, was a finalist for a Lambda Award and was shortlisted for an Expozine Alternative Press Award. Spoon co-authored their second book, Gender Failure, with Ivan Coyote and it is on its fifth pressing.
