Description

For our first Late Night of the spring season Contemporary Calgary invites you to learn about the history and production of the hand knotted rug, it’s interpretation by contemporary artists and create your own woven piece with traditional materials in the beautiful showroom of Indo Designer Rugs, a local business celebrating their 30th anniversary!

The Persian “weave” rug is both a work of art and an iconic symbol, whose intricate patterns are associated with luxury, tradition, and the Islamic influence around the world. The evening will begin with a short presentation about the history of Persian knotted rugs, an overview of the design and production process, and a brief discussion of it’s interpretation by contemporary artists. This will be followed by a short demonstration of traditional rug weaving on an antique traditional loom. Guests will then have the opportunity to create their own woven work on an individual tapestry loom using natural and traditional wools sourced from India and New Zealand. We hope you will be able to join us for this informative and creative evening!

Cash bar with complimentary UNA pizza.
