Description

Following the success of our Engineering Essentials workshops earlier this year, we're pleased to present additional in-depth programming for engineering professionals. This is intensive, two-day workshop is designed for structural engineers who want to learn more about lateral load analysis and design of wood structures. In this workshop you will:

  • Understand the development of loads according to the 2015 National Building Code (NBCC)

  • Learn about the most recent lateral design provisions based on the wood design standard (CSA O86-14)

  • Be introduced to the Canadian Wood Council’s WoodWorks® Design Software

  • Learn about the prescriptive design provisions based on the Engineering Guide for Wood Frame Construction and the NBCC Part 9

  • Develop proficiency in lateral design including mid-rise and hybrid buildings

  • Acquire design tools to perform lateral design, including the use of software, closed-form solutions, and spreadsheets


The registration fee includes hot breakfast and lunch, coffee breaks and the course materials pack.

Please note, the workshop is designed to be a two-day event; attendees will receive the greatest benefit by committing to both days of the workshop. In the event attending both days is impossible, we have made a limited number of one-day registrations available. Participants may attend either the first day or the second day, but those choosing to only attend day-two should be aware that the material offered on the second day builds on the material presented the first day.
