Law 125 Celebrations

Join us to celebrate 125 years of UNB law with fellow classmates, colleagues and friends. The evening will include a special address from graduate and former Dean of UNB Law, the Honourable H. Wade MacLauchlan, CM, OPEI, MLA, Premier of Prince Edward Island, as well as the presentation of the Ilsa Greenblatt Shore Distinguished Graduate Award to the Honourable Madam Justice Margaret E.L. Larlee.

The Ilsa Greenblatt Shore Distinguished Graduate Award Recipient

The Honourable Madam Justice Margaret E.L. Larlee earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from UNB in 1974. She was the first woman appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick where she currently sits. She is a former international director of the Canadian Chapter of the International Women Judges Association, which focuses on education and the promotion of judicial independence and human rights. Madam Justice Larlee also helped create a mentorship program for judges of the Court of Appeal and law students in New Brunswick. In recognition of her accomplishments, UNB awarded her an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2002.


Keynote speaker

The Honourable H. Wade MacLauchlan was sworn in as Premier of Prince Edward Island on February 23, 2015. Prior to entering provincial politics, Premier MacLauchlan served as the University of Prince Edward Island President from 1999 to 2011. During that time, UPEI rose in stature regionally and nationally, made dramatic strides in research and development, and placed enhanced emphasis on community engagement. A graduate of UNB law in 1981, he served as Dean of Law at the University of New Brunswick from 1991 to 1996 and a professor of law at Dalhousie University.
