Volunteer Victoria is pleased to once again offer its highly successful “Leading Volunteers: Foundations in Volunteer Management” course.

Whether you’re new to volunteer management, possess several years of experience managing volunteer programs or are simply thinking about entering the field, you will equally benefit from participating in this course.

Learn how to:

  • plan a successful volunteer program;
  • recruit and screen potential volunteers;
  • orient, train, supervise and recognize volunteers effectively within your program;
  • and evaluate and market your program effectively.

You’ll also get grounded in skills such as giving effective feedback and delegating, as well as building beneficial volunteer-staff relations and negotiating change management. Current trends in the field and supports available to people who manage volunteers will also be a focus.

This course is offered in a blended learning model, consisting of one day in person and four weeks online. This delivery model will give you more flexibility to access the course on your own schedule - prioritizing it amongst your work and life commitments - while not giving up the important relationship-building and peer-sharing aspects that have made the course such a success. On the first day of class (in person) and throughout the remaining four weeks (online), you will engage in active learning activities designed to connect you with other participants while focusing on real-world applicability.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Volunteer Victoria at the end of the course after successfully meeting the course participation and assignments criteria. Although effort per participant will vary, you should expect to spend approximately 5-7 hours a week on course activities throughout the online portion. Please note that attendance on the first day of class is mandatory.

Course Schedule:

Course Pre-Week opens online Monday Sept 29th for one week, featuring activities to help participants get oriented to the online course site, a benefit especially for those new to learning online or navigating technology.

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 - 9am to 4pm – First day in person at the Hillside Seniors Health Centre.

Four weeks of interactive online work starting Monday, October 6th, and finishing Sunday, November 2nd. Each of the four weeks online focuses on different weekly content and activities.

A course graduation celebration will be held at Volunteer Victoria on Monday November 3rd from 5:30-7:00pm.
