Leading without Power - The Art of Influence
Thu, 20 April 2017, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM PDT
You have just been given responsibility for a big task, working with a group of people that don’t report to you. Congratulations! You are now presented with one of leadership’s biggest challenges. Leading without power. Without the tools of leverage that accompany a position of authority you have to find other ways to influence people. Learning the techniques for achieving influence without using power will grow your leadership practice and expand your toolset with practical techniques that can be applied in almost any situation.
This interactive session will explore the options and strategies for leading when you don’t have positional authority and will deliver some useful tolls that can be used in almost any situation. As an attendee, you will explore your orientation to power, the sources of influence in groups, the tools of influence and how to apply them, and strategies for collaborating with peers, superiors, and reports.
The facilitator, Lane Sherman, has observed thousands (really!) of self-directed teams over 15 years of work in the field. He has seen what moves people to action and what helps people shift. He has also seen how to get the exact opposite - dug-in, frustrated and un-moveable people. As a result he knows what it takes to influence others even when you don't have authority over outcomes.
The For Leaders Only Workshop Series has been developed specifically for people that are in leadership roles. By limiting attendance to a small number of leaders Lane is able to create a learning environement that builds on what people already know and adds to it in a way that encourages a high level of engagement and the practical, strategic application of content.
This session is part three of the series. You don't need to take the first two to attend, but it will help. See lane's full calendar at www.lanesherman.com
