Event description

Description

7 WEEK COURSE TWICE A WEEK | $345 + HST ( INCLUDES TWO 3 HOUR CLASS TWICE PER WEEK FOR 7 WEEKS)

Tuesdays & Thursdays 6 PM – 9 PM | Starts February 12

There is nothing like the sound of a sharp chisel cutting into a fresh piece of Atlantic wood, nor the smell of fresh wood chips scattered beneath your feet. If this makes you want to try woodcarving then we have the class for you! Timothy Jones and Justin Sappier will teach you the skills needed to carve your very own mask. Guided supervision and support helps you understand the tools and different types of wood. For centuries people around the world have been fascinated with how a raw piece of wood can be transformed into something imaginative and beautiful. You won’t want to miss out on this class!

MATERIAL COST: $35.00 - $50.00

Instructors: Justin Sappier and Timothy Jones

Justin Sappier, a Peskotomuhkati-Wolastoqey (Passamaquoddy-Maliseet) currently lives in Island View, New Brunswick, Canada. He uses his Aboriginal art, especially traditional woodcarving, to educate the public on Wabanaki (East Coast) First Nations culture. Raised in the Peskotomuhka/Wolastoqey territory, Justin works to bring awareness to the issues presently facing indigenous groups on the East Coast, striving to bring pride and proper recognition.

Timothy Jones, a traditional carver, currently lives on the East Coast of Canada. He draws on his Scandinavian heritage to portray characters from Nordic folk tales, legends and ancient religion through his wooden sculptures. Timothy’s aim is to use these figures as they were originally intended - as a way to communicate ideas and teachings.
