Learn Veganic Gardening Course - 7 weeks online
Event Information
About this Event
Missed the first weeks but still want to sign up?
You can still register!
You'll have access to a video replay of the first classes so you can catch up.
Would you like to boost your self-sufficiency and grow your own food while having a positive impact on your health, the earth, and animals?
Learn to garden veganically, and grow the veggiest veggies of all!
Veganic gardens use organic plant-based techniques, like compost and mulch, instead of animal-based fertilizers like manure, bloodmeal or bonemeal.
Veganic works in harmony with free-living animals to build healthy soil, which leads to healthy veggies for you!
Join our 7-week course to learn the fundamentals of veganic gardening
Whether you're completely new to gardening or would like to learn new techniques, please join us!
There are many ways to garden veganically. We'll introduce a variety of veganic techniques so you can choose the ones that are best adapted for your space, your climate, your goals, and your lifestyle.
You'll learn about:
- Permaculture - how imitating nature leads to sustainable, resilient, low-maintenance gardens
- Soil health - how to create living soil that nourishes your plants
- Veganic fertility - how to boost your garden with plant materials
- Composting - how to compost everywhere, from backyards to balconies
- Nutrient cycling - how to make use of free local resources and create closed-loop systems
- Perennials - how to plant once and harvest for years
- Biodiversity - how to make your garden a biodiversity hotspot
- Techniques for any space - how to grow veganically in yards big and small, community garden plots, and containers
The main principles of veganic gardening are the same in any climate, so participants from around the world are welcome to join. Participants will be encouraged to do a little complementary learning between classes about their climate and bioregion.
Course format
The course is 14 hours over 7 weeks.
We'll present each 2-hour course live over Zoom on Wednesdays at 12 noon Eastern Time (New York City time zone), from March 10 to April 21.
A recording of the live course will also be available for participants, to make it accessible for busy schedules and different time zones.
Bonus Q&A meetups
Would you like to dive deeper into the topics, ask questions, and share ideas with the course teachers and fellow participants?
We'll be hosting bonus Q&A meetups every Monday from March 15 to April 26. These 1-hour meetups will happen live over Zoom at 2 different times each Monday to help accommodate different schedules and time zones: 12 noon and 8pm Eastern Time. Participants are welcome to come to either meetup each week.
Note: to encourage open conversation, the Q&A meetups will not be recorded.
Meet your teachers
Hi, we're your course teachers, Meghan Kelly and Stephane Groleau. We co-founded the Veganic Agriculture Network in 2008 (goveganic.net). We've taught gardening to hundreds of students. We garden up in chilly Canada on a large countryside garden, in a downtown community garden, and on balconies. We love experimenting with sustainable, low-maintenance gardening techniques, and sharing our passion for veganic growing.
Cost and accessibility
In addition to our Regular rate, we've created a Reduced rate to make the course more accessible. It's open to anyone who considers the Reduced rate more appropriate for their situation (students, low-income, systemic barriers, covid-affected, volunteers, non-profits, etc.).
Does the Reduced rate still pose a financial barrier for you? We have a limited number of free or pay-what-you-can spots available. They are primarily intended for organizations that are addressing food security issues in their community, and for individuals who are facing food insecurity, or systemic barriers, or are from low-income countries. Please contact us through learnveganic.com to ask about this option.
