About this event

A Learning Team is a facilitated means of engaging with workers to understand and then learn from the opportunities that are presented by everyday successful and safe work, as well as learning from loss events or incidents. This includes understanding what, when, how, and why people do things differently from the formal systems and procedures in order to get the job done. This one-day workshop is divided into 3 separate though connected topics that are designed to help build your knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply Learning Teams in your organization.

Part 1: The Five Principles of Learning Teams

In this section we will explore:

  • Why learning is a valuable risk management strategy for continuous improvement
  • What is operational learning
  • How does Learning Teams fit in the new view of safety
  • The 5 Principles of Learning Teams

Part 2: The Three Modes of Learning Teams

In this section we will explore:

  • Difference between organizational and worker learning
  • What impedes learning from investigations versus everyday work
  • Why psychological safety is important when learning from events
  • How does learning occur during management of change and normal work

Part 3: Embedding and Sustaining Learning Teams

In this section we will explore:

  • Leadership Engagement
  • The role of the facilitator
  • Creating your own learning and development roadmap
  • Building and improving your practice
  • Using the Operational Learning Journal
