Learning to Breathe, May 4 & 5, 2017, Toronto
Event Information
Description
This 2 day workshop is intended to introduce teachers and clinicians to Learning to BREATHE, (www.learning2breathe.org), an evidence-based mindfulness program for adolescents developed by Dr. Patricia Broderick. Since teachers themselves must experience mindfulness, the workshop includes periods of mindfulness practice for participants. Some prior experience with mindfulness is helpful but is not a prerequisite for participation.
This workshop enables participants to:
-
Summarize specific current research findings that relate to adolescent brain development, emotion regulation, stress, social emotional learning and wellbeing.
-
Understand the theoretical and practical applications of L2B, including lesson-specific activities and practices.
-
Demonstrate skills for presenting and teaching mindfulness to adolescents in school-based or clinic settings.
-
Practice mindfulness as applied to daily life through guided periods throughout the program.
-
Establish networking connections and resources for participants to draw upon in order to continue using mindfulness effectively in classrooms and other settings.
Workshop price includes workshop materials but does not include the manual. Lunch may be purchased in the yacht club's dining room overlooking Lake Ontario or at nearby restaurants. The dining room accepts credit cards only. Parking on site is included. The Yacht Club is also easily accessible by public transit.
Early registration is highly recommended as space is limited.
