Event description

Description

Presented by Karyn Callaghan

Karyn has worked as an early childhood educator with children and parents for many years, she was a faculty member in the ECE program at Mohawk College and in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies program at Charles Sturt University. She co-founded and coordinated the Reggio-inspired Artists at the Centre – Making Thinking Visible Project. She provided consultation for the Ministry of Education as they developed the “Think, Feel, Act” and “How Does Learning Happen?” documents, and participated in preparing support materials for the Ministry website. She is also a co-author of a book entitled “Documenting Children’s Meaning: Engaging in Design and Creativity with Children and Families” with Carol Anne Wien and artist Jason Avery.

Join us for an interactive session that will focus on Pedagogical Documentation.

* Documenting children’s strategies and giving visibility to their competence also reveals the thinking and learning of educators.

*Create communities of learners by inviting children, colleagues, and families to revisit what we have documented and offer their perspectives as we seek more complexity in our understandings.

* Reflect together on work that was done in an Ontario early years setting to consider why and how we might document with an intention of doing more than “making doing visible”.

Engage in dialogue with pedagogical companions to make meaning from what has been documented to create documentation that both reveals and provokes learning.
