Description

Wake-up before your time’s up!

No matter what kind of life you live, how much money you have, or what you think of your accomplishments, consider that you have a legacy. Inside a thoughtful and dynamic group process you will reflect on your life and your legacy, identify who and what matters most to you and begin to write lasting messages for those you love and future generations. Legacy, Love Letters and Heart Wills will support you to:

  • Reflect on your life and your legacy

  • Uncover the scope of your feelings about your inevitable death

  • Identify who and what matters most to you

  • Begin to write lasting message for those you love and future generations

Participants will engage dynamic self-discovery exercises that include personal reflection, journal writing, pair sharing and group discussion. Poetry, song and video / film are also used to enhance the learning experience.

Facilitated by Reena Lazar and Michelle Pante of Willow End-of-Life Education & Planning, these gatherings are a safe, open-hearted place to explore, in community, the reality of our shared mortality. Each event centers around a different topic as a pathway for self-reflection, conversation and connection.

Thanks to the generous support of the City of Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery, these events are free to the public. All are welcome to join us, usually the last Monday of the month. Future dates are also listed, along with other events, on the Willow website. Subscribe to our mailing list and you'll receive our newsletter every few weeks with an article we write and news of events and offerings.

THE CONTEXT

Death is the one thing in life we’re most certain of, yet most people would do anything to avoid talking or even thinking about it. For most of us, it takes death itself—whether recent or impending—to prompt us to bravely consider the reality of our mortality.

People in their dying days often speak of experiencing enormous growth and transformation. Dying can be a time of truth seeking and risk taking. Many have observed that in the face of death, people tend to focus on what gives (or has given) their life meaning.

Perhaps you’ve experienced something similar around a health crisis or the death of someone you knew. The truth is, you don’t need to wait until someone dies or you’re faced with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness to experience these benefits.

Your mortality is an opportunity in disguise.

Whether you have days or decades to live, we believe that thinking about and preparing for your some-day, one-day, inevitable death will inspire you to live your best life now.

We'd love to journey with you.

With love and light, Michelle Pante + Reena Lazar
