Seminar Description

This seminar will address a wide range of issues confronted by all charities in dealing with employees, from proper approaches to hiring to implementing terminations - and everything in between. Topics addressed will include appropriate use of employment letters and Employee Handbooks, approaches to investigating misconduct, the imposition of effective progressive discipline and procedural requirements relating to discipline. It also will discuss Human Rights concerns, including dealing with Complaints and the issue of accommodation for employees with disabilities.

Adrian Frost

Adrian’s practice is focused in the areas of labour, employment, and human rights law.

He acts as counsel and provides advice on all aspects of unionized and non-unionized employment relationships, including employment agreements and employee manuals, collective bargaining, terminations, and wrongful dismissals. Adrian frequently represents clients before arbitration boards, the Manitoba Labour Board, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

Adrian served as President of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers (CACE) in 2017-18 and previously served as the Manitoba Director, Treasurer and Vice-President on the Board of Directors. He served as Co-Chair of the Manitoba Bar Association’s Labour and Employment subsection from 2009-2014. Adrian has been recognized as a leading lawyer in labour and employment law in the 2012-2020 editions of Best Lawyers in Canada and as a “Future Litigation Star” or “Litigation Star” in the 2012-2020 editions of Benchmark Canada, the Guide to Canada’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys. In 2013 he was selected as a Lexpert® Rising Star: Leading Lawyer Under 40 by Lexpert® Magazine.

Adrian’s community involvement currently includes sitting as a Director and President of Rainbow Stage (1993) Inc. Since 2012 Adrian has served as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach with the Northeast Predators and/or Northeast Eagles female hockey programs. Adrian has also participated as a cast member in five of the musicals jointly produced by the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Manitoba Bar Association, a helpful reminder that he should stick to his lawyering occupation.
