Nova Scotia Health Authority Information Management & Technology and the Nova Scotia Nursing Informatics Group are pleased to welcome Dr. Lynn Nagle, PHD, RN, FAAN and Peggy White, MN as our guest speakers for the next Let's Talk Informatics presentation - Advancing Nursing Data Standards in Canada.

This presentation will provide an overview of the vision and benefits to be derived from the adoption of nursing data standards in Canada. In addition, an update on the strategic directions and the specific associated activities in practice, administration, education, research and policy, planned and completed to date.

About our Presenters

Dr. Lynn Nagle, PHD, RN, FAAN
Lynn has more than 30 years of health care experience in practice, administration and academia and is known for her extensive experience and expertise in nursing and health informatics. She has her own health informatics consulting practice and works with a variety of clients locally, provincially and nationally. She is an Assistant Professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg, Faculty of Nursing and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto and an Adjunct Faculty member at Western University. She is the Founding President of the Canadian Nursing Informatics Association and is currently the Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Nursing Leadership.

Peggy White, MN
Peggy has a Masters in Nursing from the Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. Peggy has a rich depth of knowledge and experience in health care delivery organizations, the health system and in nursing. She has an extensive background as a health care leader in the acute care sector. She is currently the Project Director for C-HOBIC, an initiative that is working to implement the electronic collection of nursing data standards in Canada and supporting nurses in understanding the value of this information for their practice. She is the co-lead, along with Dr. Lynn Nagle, on the National Nursing Data Standards Initiative.

Peggy has published numerous articles in health care journals about the benefits of collecting standardized clinical outcomes in electronic health records. In addition, she co-authored a chapter on Patient Safety in Nursing-Sensitive Outcomes: State of the Science and a chapter on Nursing Leadership in Quality Work Environments for Nurse and Patient Safety. Peggy has recently co-authored two case studies about the Canadian experience in Nursing and Informatics for the 21st Century: An International Look at Practice, Education and EHR Trends.


Let's Talk Informatics is a monthly Informatics Grand Rounds series dedicated to exploring the use of information technology in health care to transform patient care and drive clinical outcomes.
