Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) is pleased to welcome Stacey Lake and Katie Heckman as the guest speakers for the next NSHA Information Management & Technology Let's Talk Informatics presentation: Virtual Care: Successes and Challenges in a Changing World of Technology

The Nova Scotia Health Authority IM/IT Virtual Care team works with clinical service areas to connect patients with their health care providers using videoconferencing technology. This presentation will guide you through the development of Virtual Care in Nova Scotia, the current state of this service within the health care system, and the potential for opportunities and advancements in the future. There will also be discussion around the barriers and challenges that exist in virtual care and how we can look to overcome these challenges in a continuously changing world of technology and healthcare.

About the Presenters

Stacey Lake is a Provincial Virtual Care Lead with Nova Scotia Health Authority Information Management and Technology (IM/IT). Stacey comes to the Virtual Care team from a previous management role in patient flow at the Valley Regional Hospital. She has a Masters of Science and is a registered Dietitian. Stacey values innovation and forward thinking and has a great deal of experience in the health care setting, both at the frontline and administratively. She also has a keen interest in technology and how it can create more opportunity in the health care setting.

Katie Heckman is a Provincial Virtual Care Lead with Nova Scotia Health Authority Information Management & Technology (IM/IT). She is passionate about her role in supporting the integration of virtual care into the clinical setting and sees great value in this work. Although relatively new to the Health IT world, her background in research and quality improvement with a focus on patient reported outcomes, allows her to connect the patient experience with improved clinical process efficiencies through the use of technology. Katie has a Master’s in Public Health, specializing in health promotion and an undergraduate degree in Community Development.

Let's Talk Informatics is a monthly Informatics Grand Rounds series dedicated to exploring the use of information technology in health care to transform patient care and drive clinical outcomes. The series is approved by Digital Health Canada as a Continuing Education Provider enabling participants to claim 1CE hour for each presentation attended. It is also certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Nova Scotia Chapter for one Mainpro+ credit by providing content aimed at improving computer skills as applied to learning and access to information.
