From Mindless Scrolling to Handshakes: Leveraging Social Media for Career Development in STEAM Interactive Webinar
About this event
Summary:
Most of us are already spending loads of time on social media, but we've never really been taught how to use that time productively. In this interactive session, Neuroscientist and Science Communicator Samantha Yammine (aka "Science Sam") will teach you tips and tricks of how you can use your time online to learn about potential careers in STEAM and help you grow your network so you can land your dream job – whatever it ends up being. From LinkedIn to Twitter and Instagram communities, come ready to expand your academic network and start building a strong professional brand online. This workshop will have live-automated captions for accessibility, and all are welcome, particularly folks who may feel alone or marginalized in STEAM. Samantha was the first in her family to pursue a science career and is here to help you get a leg up even if the path ahead seems unclear. If you require other accommodations or considerations please contact us at ort.admin@uhnresearch.ca.
Target Audience:
This seminar is targeted towards graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are beginning to plan the next steps in their careers.

1. Spruce up their LinkedIn page for better discovery by recruiters
2. Increase their engagement on Twitter & LinkedIn
3. Create & maintain professional connections through social media

Samantha Yammine (she/her) is a Neuroscientist and Science Communicator who earned her PhD from the University of Toronto studying how stem cells build and maintain the brain.
