Description

Out for Australia and Corrs Chambers Westgarth invite you to join us for to an evening of drinks, canapes and networking, and discussion about health issues, such as HIV medicine, gender medicine and mental health, that are specifically facing the LGBTIQ+ community.

Date: Thursday, 23 August 2018
Time: 5:30pm for a 6.00pm start
Venue: Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Level 42, 111 Eagle Street, Brisbane
Tickets: Free (Light refreshments provided). Please register for catering purposes.

The evening will be an opportunity to hear from each of our guest speakers who will provide some brief insight into key health issues in their areas of expertise. This will be followed by casual mingling time with time for attendees to engage with our presenters and ask questions.

  • Dr Fiona Bisshop (MBBS FRACGP DRANZCOG BSc (Hons))
    Dr Bisshop is a GP at Holdsworth House with special interest in transgender health, sexual health, PrEP, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV medicine. She is a trans health advocate and winner of the Brisbane Trans Awards health professional of the year for the last 2 years. Dr Bisshop was co-creator of the annual Best Practice in Transgender Medicine workshop. She has been a writer for Q News as “Doc Q” since 2009.

  • Nikki Goodwin (B. SW, M. SW (Advanced Practice))
    Mental Health Social Worker and has worked in a myriad of roles largely focused on youth and young people. Through her varied work with young people in Brisbane and across Australia, Nikki has formed a strong passion for supporting youth in all descriptions and especially in supporting those in the LGBTI+ community. Nikki works in private practice and is on the management committee for Open Doors Youth Service. Nikki identifies as part of the LGBTI+ community and her pronouns are her/she

  • Bec Johnson, Rocky, and Chantel (IndigiLez Womens Leadership and Support Group) and Dion Tatow and Lenny (Gar’ban’djee’lum Network), and Brett Mooney (National LGBTI Health Alliance).
    The speakers work together on social and emotional wellbeing, cultural safety, suicide prevention and general health for the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community.
