Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers
Thu, 6 April 2017, 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM EDT
TVCC's pool is a motivating, exciting, therapeutic environment for clients. It is also a refreshing, interesting, alternative environment for clinicians. Goals such as dressing, increasing range of motion, strengthening, and relaxation have been targeted to aid with the transition from practicing in the therapy space to practical application in everyday activities. The pool is a great place to motivate reluctant communicators and children who need an engaging activity to help develop and practice communication as well as social language skills e.g., turn taking, requesting and initiating. Clients can learn to apply concepts like up/down; wet/dry; sink/float in a real life setting.
This course will prepare you with practical, hands-on training, and includes water safety and incident prevention information integrated with TVCC pool procedures and emergency responses. Interaction and sharing with colleagues is encouraged. Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers certification is required for TVCC staff using our pool for individual and group interventions, and the course is facilitated by a Lifesaving Society instructor.
