Description

Linocut Printmaking (Introductory Level)
Date: June 19, 2018 (Wednesday)
Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Instructor: Tamsin Sloots
Fee: $50 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $60 plus HST (Non Members)

Students will learn the basics of linocut printmaking. Linocut is a relief printing method using a sheet of linoleum. A subtractive cutting method is used to take away the parts of linoleum where you want to leave the white of the page, and keep the parts you want to be inked! In the result you have a linocut plate that can reproduce the same image over and over again.

During the workshop, students will design an image, carve that image into the linoleum surface and print it a number of times to create an edition of multiple prints. To have plenty of time for carving and printing, students are encouraged to bring sketches or ideas for designing their image.

Tamsin Sloots is a maker of prints and textile objects originally hailing from Hamilton, Ontario. She has a diploma in textiles from Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and a BFA Interdisciplinary from NSCAD University in Textiles and Printmaking. Tamsin is currently working out of the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design as an artist in residence for 2017-2018 where you can likely find her quilting up a storm or elbow deep in a vat of indigo. She thoroughly enjoys spreading her love of craft to people and experiencing the community and practicality found through making and creating. You can learn more about her by visiting her website: tamsinjohanna.com
