On January 10, 2020, California governor, Gavin Newsom, announced a proposal to realize California's long-standing goal that no healthy or treatable animal is euthanized in California shelters.

In a historic move, Newsom designated a one-time investment of 50 million dollars to benefit California shelters, a major win for homeless dogs and cats residing in this great state. The investment will be distributed through a grant program, managed by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program, with priority going to communities with the largest lifesaving gap.

Some of the framework is already in place, (click here to view the budget trailer bill), as are the overarching goals and strategy, but much is still unknown in these early days.

We're using the time between now and June 2020 to LISTEN to our fellow stakeholders and gather opinions, ideas, and questions about the California for All Cats and Dogs you want to see so we waste no time organizing ourselves when more details are revealed to us all.
