A LiterASIAN Panel
A Conversation on Writing, Memory, and Family with Katherine Luo and Madeleine Thien

Moderator: Winnie Cheung

A poignant memoir of life in mainland China during the Chinese Cultural Revolution by Katherine Luo, The Unceasing Storm: Memories of the Chinese Cultural Revolution is a memoir of not only her personal struggles—among other things, she was expelled from university, forbidden to marry her first love, and accused of being a spy—but also those of a generation who lived through the Cultural Revolution, memories now a time capsule of a tragic yet important period of modern China. Luo’s intimate glimpse into the life of youth in revolutionary China not only influenced Madeleine Thien and her eventual writing of Do Not Say We Have Nothing, but ultimately enabled Thien to make a connection to her own past. Join us for what will be a memorable conversation of writing, memory, and family with Madeleine Thien and Katherine Luo in a very special evening event.
