Description

A LiterASIAN Panel
Writing Across the Asian Canadian Diaspora with Madeleine Thien, Jovanni Sy, Michael Kaan, Vincent Ternida, and Kevin Chong

At the heart of every diaspora is a journey. The stories behind where these journeys come from enable us to think and experience across cultures. With a panel featuring some of the finest writers of the “Asian diaspora,” join us on a journey of insight into the the Asian literary and cultural diaspora, exploring the migration in recent history of Asian people to places beyond Asia and to locations within the Asia Pacific regions in the English-speaking world. As the field of English writing and literary studies today is significantly broader, more complex and diverse than it was several decades ago, this panel of established writers will present on the fiction produced by and about Asians living outside and inside Asia (itself a problematic term), and ultimately disrupt our often distorted understanding of writing in the Asian diaspora.

This is a free event at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. To see the schedule and purchase a $25 Festival Pass for the rest of LiterASIAN 2018, please click here.
