Event Details

We all know that people once built courthouses, homes, castles, and city halls that lasted for centuries. Today durability is often 30 or 40 years. What has changed? Can we build modern buildings that last hundreds of years, respond to unknown but changing demands and still be comfortable and energy efficient? Current talk of "climate change preparedness" and "building resilience" is putting new emphasis on achieving high levels of durability. In this presentation, we will look at the building science principles that can help a building last for decades or centuries no matter the weather. Both residential and institutional/commercial buildings will be discussed.

Presenter: John Straube
