Event Details

rain on buildingsRain control is fundamental to the performance of a building enclosure. Codes require, and designers specify, water control layers to play a critical role in this function.

This presentation will investigate how rain penetration control is managed, how designers should select systems and materials, and investigate some mysteries of modern buildings, such as what is a water resistive barrier, and how is it different than damp-proofing, waterproofing, roof underlayments, and roof membranes.

  2. Identify key principles for the selection of rain control systems and materials.
  3. Describe the characteristics and function of a water resistive barrier (WRB).
  4. Recognize the differences between WRBs, damp-proofing, waterproofing, roof underlayments, and roof membranes.
