Event Details

Building science principles are critical to designing functional, efficient, healthy and durable buildings. But before we get to the science, we need to understand the context. What are the unique functional requirements of the building? The lifestyles of the occupants? The conditions the building will be exposed to? Using Kashechewan First Nation as a case-study, we will discuss the current state of housing and ways in which building science principles, research and analysis can be combined with local knowledge to create housing that meets the challenges facing this community. We will then discuss general lessons learned for sustainable design and improved occupant engagement and satisfaction.

Presenter: Trevor Trainor and guest Justin Breg
