Event description

Description

Imagine having to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table. This is the real choice many people in Fredericton are forced to make.

We invite you to join us for Living on the Edge, the first-ever poverty simulation in Fredericton. Living on the Edge is a simulation where participants will experience the reality of living in poverty, as well as the barriers that many families and individuals face. This simulation also gives participants the opportunity to identify areas of change that can improve and impact the effects of poverty in our community.

During this interactive learning process, you are assigned a role in a family and perform daily tasks such as sending kids to school, going to or looking for work, paying bills, accessing community resources, buying groceries, interacting with financial institutions, and much more. The debriefing session that follows allows you to share your experience with participants and connect them to the realities that more than 100,000 New Brunswickers face every day.

Here is an example of the poverty simulation, Living on the Edge out of Fort Saskatchewan, to give you a closer look into what the day might look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwnUBRsylFU
