Event description

Description

Our Digital Literacy professional learning program, developed in partnership with Fair Chance Learning, is a great opportunity for educators looking to build their digital skills and technological know-how in a sustainable and transformative way.

As part of this program Let’s Talk Science has developed a workshop specifically tailored to support our exciting new classroom Action Project - Living Space. This project will coincide with Canadian Astronaut David Saint-Jacques’ upcoming mission to the International Space Station (ISS) and is offered in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, with funding support from the CanCode program.

During our workshop, participants will:

Explore the online resources for the Living Space action project;

Code micro:bits with MakeCode, a JavaScript Blocks editor, and incorporate custom sensors to record environmental data;

Create an interactive online model with Scratch;

Develop confidence incorporating computational thinking, as well as digital and coding skills into the classroom.

Open to all educators, but please note that the resources and materials are targeted towards Grade 6 and Grade 9 curriculum.

NOTE: Please bring a laptop or computer with a USB port (i.e., chromebook, windows device, mac computer) and a power supply.

Facilitators: Jennifer Ferguson, Let's Talk Science and Barb Seaton, Fair Chance Learning

For additional information on the Living Space action project, including learning goals and activities, please check out letstalkscience.ca/livingspace. Our free resources include guided materials and curriculum-aligned lessons, a cross-curricular approach for integrating computational thinking and space exploration, as well as tips for educators as they work through the project with their students.

Registration is between 8:30am - 9:00am. Workshop beings at 9:00am.

Thanks to support from the CSA, Government of Canada and SAP, all registrants who attend this workshop will receive a full refund following their completion of the workshop.
