Description

The Business Council of British Columbia and the Energy Council of Canada Present:

Local Action, Global Impact: Sharing British Columbia's Low Carbon Advantage with the World

A world-leading jurisdiction for its varied responses to climate change, British Columbia is likely best known internationally for its early adoption of an economy-wide carbon tax in 2008. While no longer revenue neutral, today the B.C. carbon tax is among the highest and most broadly applied carbon pricing schemes in the world.

What isn’t well known, is British Columbia’s low carbon advantage. The province and its business community are working in partnership to change that. We invite you to come to learn how B.C.’s Low Carbon Industrial Strategy will leverage its clean hydroelectricity advantage, its regulatory expertise and its enviable geographic proximity to strategic global markets to become a leading low carbon supplier of choice.

More specifically, hear how B.C. natural resources, energy products, manufactured goods, and technology exports contain up to five times lower carbon content than competing jurisdictions’ products. Expanding the reach and scale of these low carbon inputs for increasingly in-demand items such as EV vehicles can make an outsized impact on reducing carbon content and emissions around the world.

Delegates from the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation Conference, along with Canadian leaders from business, academia, all levels of government and Indigenous communities, will benefit from this discussion. It will paint a vivid picture of the world-leading action that British Columbia is taking locally, to lead in the fight against climate change internationally.

While in broad agreement on the need to reduce global GHG emissions, the expert panel members will differ on some aspects of how Canada and B.C. should and can contribute to a cleaner and lower carbon future. Don’t miss this bold conversation on the opportunities and focused efforts required to fully realize the global benefits of B.C.’s low carbon advantage.

Panelists include:
