London Community Tours
Event Information
Description
Want to learn about the cool city building initiatives happening across London? You can see and experience them for yourself through themed tours with local guides. Evergreen has teamed up with community partners to showcase some of these initiatives. These tours are all happening ont the same day, at the same time, so you'll have to choose just one! Join us to learn about:
1. Active transportation in London
On this tour offered by London Bicycle Café’s Ben Cowie, participants will be taken on a bike tour of London's cycling infrastructure. Learn about cycle and active transportation advocacy in the City of London and experience these community projects first hand as you ride along the Thames Valley Parkway. Bikes provided.
2. Community building in London’s urban core
Led by the Downtown London Community Association, this walking tour will discuss community-building strategies and its impact on London's urban core. You will have the opportunity to tour and visit the King Street community, Richmond Row commercial corridor, and other grassroots-led community projects.
3. Community-led neighbourhood revitalization in London’s Old East Village
Led by the Old East Village BIA, this walking tour will take you along Dundas from Adelaide to Ontario to learn about community-led revitalization. You'll see how the community built on their strengths – arts and culture, a thriving culinary scene, and unique shops – to drive economic growth and vitality.
4. Grassroots engagement with the Northeast Community Conversations Group
This tour led by the Northeast Community Conversations (NECC) is designed to bring you through areas in the Northeast that relate to some of the more common discussions and themes the group has encountered over the past 5 years – poverty, mental health, accessibility, natural environment, education, culture & First Nations.
5. Back to the River – The role of the Thames River in London’s identity
One of London’s most ambitious plans is re-centralizing the role of the Thames River in our City’s identity. Community consultation and input has defined the project and helped develop its impact. This bus tour will explore the 5km stretch of river from Harris to Watson parks.
These tours are hosted in partnership with London Community Foundation, Pillar Nonprofit Network, UnLondon, the Urban League of London, City of London and CBC London.
