Event description

Description

An exciting three-part course by Imam Zijad Delic on planning for and maintaining a loving relationship in marriage.

Module 1 - Pre-Marriage Considerations

This session will elaborate on the essential points to be considered in the process of looking for, and choosing a life partner. It will establish the fact that it is important to get married; however, we must do everything possible to find someone to be fairly compatible with us – in faith, culture, education/intellect, hobbies, the family worldview, etc. This session will also establish the concept that investing more in educating ourselves on the matter of finding a compatible partner allows us to enter into a relationship with more confidence and open-mindedness. Students will get familiar with questions to ask when looking for a spouse, and ultimately discuss what really matters in the search for a relationship in marriage.

Saturday, October 5

2:00 - 5:00 PM

Cost: $20.00

Module 2: Being Married & Working For Happiness

Now, after we have checked out all possibilities for the marriage, we choose a person whom we thought to be the closest to what we were dreaming of in a spouse. This is the moment to start working on our marriage, every single day. The more we invest at the start, the greater return will be later on, Insha Allah. This session will enlighten the participants on the essential ingredients for building a healthy relationship between two people, and with the world around them. The discussion then will focus on faith as a foundation (those who pray together, stay together!), sabr (patience) and its importance as the couple works on getting to know each other, kindness, mercy, forgiveness, and of course respect which keeps marriage alive even when in difficult situations. This is the perfect session to gain tips for success in marriage.

Saturday, October 19

2:00 - 5:00 PM

Cost $20.00

Module 3: Communication & Conflict Resolution

Lack of communication in marriage or inappropriate communication is often cited as one of the biggest reasons for many unsuccessful marriages. It is true that the communication, or lack of it, makes a huge impact on the direction of our marriages. Assertive, sincere communication in marriage is the key to developing vision, success and happiness in our marriages. When things become bumpy in our relationships, we must look for solutions. There is no social problem that does not have an appropriate solution when two people work together to look for the solution. Human life is relational. As we grow with each other, besides experiencing happiness, we will experience some challenges and face situations that can seem unsalvageable -these challenges are part of married life. It is not challenges that are the problem; it is the way how we face these situations and challenges that could make them into a problem or an opportunity. The opportunity could be how we can show our spouses our positive nature and our respect for each other.

Students will learn that what we say, and how we say it in marriage really matters. We will get to know different models of communication and then propose the one that brings serenity and trust in our marriages. This session will open the horizon of possibilities within the conflict resolution model from an Islamic perspective in the event of challenging situations.
