Description

The Vancouver Chapter of the LSE Alumni Association is proud to invite BC-based alumni to join us for this year's North America Networking Night on 27th April at the Vancouver Club.

The Networking Night builds on last year's inaugural event, where we heard from alumnus Mr. Fayyaz Alimohamed (BSc Economics '81) who made an impactful speech on the future of jobs and the increase in the use of AI and robotics. This year, we are equally proud to confirm that Dr. Kennedy Stewart MP (PhD Government '03) and Julie Hunter (MSc International Relations '08) will be sharing their experiences from their time at LSE and through their career journey.

Event Details:
Location: Vancouver Club, 915 W Hastings Street, Vancouver, VC6 1C6 (SFU Room)
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Refreshments: Beer, wine, soft drinks and canapés
Contribution: $20

Dr. Kennedy Stewart MP completed his PhD in Government at the London School of Economics in 2003. A member of the New Democratic Party, he was first elected to the House of Commons in 2011, where he serves as the Member of Parliament for Burnaby South. He is currently the NDP Critic for Science and Chair of the NDP's British Columbia Caucus. Previously, Kennedy was an associate professor at SFU's School of Public Policy.

Julie Hunter is an international human rights lawyer whose expertise includes international criminal law, indigenous rights, and environmental law. She is the Clinic Fellow at the Allard Law School International Justice & Human Rights Clinic at the University of British Columbia, and a consulting attorney for Blue Ocean Law, an international law firm based in Guam. In 2013-2014, she clerked for Judge András Sajó at the European Court of Human Rights and served as legal advisor to the Commissioner of Human Rights at the Council of Europe. Previously she worked with the Navajo Nation, various UN missions, the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, and human rights attorney Paul Hoffman on landmark Alien Tort Statute cases. Julie has authored influential reports on deep sea mining, climate change, and homeless encampments, as well as a report on labor trafficking on U.S. military bases which led to President Barack Obama’s Executive Order strengthening protections against trafficking in persons in federal contracts. She holds a J.D. from Yale Law School ('13), a M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of Economics ('08), and a B.A. from Harvard College ('07).
