Event description

Description

We invite to check out the work by local artist, Michael Wills from 8-10pm on the evening August 25th, 2017 at lululemon queen street west. He is presenting his work with the show called, 'sweat the city.'

Sweat The City includes pure energy of the city’s atmosphere how it bleeds and sweats energy and vibrancy. There will be many different types of cityscapes from bridges to city streets with vast colour and energy. Much like when we exert force when we sweat, these series of paintings will illustrate the exertion of sweating how we use energy and emotion into what we practice. The techniques used for painting will portray the quickness of today’s city life but also the physical energy we need to do our training whatever it may be. Michael wants you to be pulled in and drawn into that particular scenery of where you have been before on the streets whether running or going to a class. Each painting you should feel your sweat coming out of the painting in colour. So welcome to Sweat the City.

This is a 19+ private event. Please RSVP to ensure your spot to the show. We hope to see you there. Event is subject to capacity.

Artist Bio

At a very young age Michael simultaneously picked up a paintbrush and a hockey stick. Both hockey and painting have given him outlets to express himself as well as given him the opportunity to travel around the world. Throughout Michael’s life the worlds of art and sports have continued to collide. Pursuing an education in art on a hockey scholarship has taken him to many different cities. Michael completed his BFA studio practice in Graphic Design at Oswego State University. His passion drives him not only to the net when he was on the ice but also to spend sleepless nights in front of a blank canvas until it has been filled with energy, emotion and movement. Michael travels through his life documenting and experiencing. His first solo exhibition took place in Macon Georgia where he was pursuing a semi-professional hockey career. Michael’s art has always been an expression of his emotional energy and hockey, an expression of his physical energy. Each city that hockey took Michael to from all over southern Ontario to Camrose Alberta, Alaska, Boston Massachusetts to the southern states all the way to Latvia and Serbia. Michael has been letting his brush tell the story his eyes have seen.

When my two worlds of hockey and art collided I truly became an artist. My passion drives me not only to the net when I`m on the ice but also to spend sleepless nights in front of a blank canvas until it has been filled with energy, emotion and movement. I picked up a pencil and a hockey stick simultaneously at a very young age and have never put either down. In 2008 my preparation on the ice guided me to play with team Canada at the World Junior A Challenge in Camrose Alberta, where my team took home the bronze medal. I just finished my BFA studio practice in Graphic Design at Oswego. Now I finished my first season of Pro hockey as well as my first solo exhibition in Macon Georgia. My second Season of Pro was over in Serbia as I finished my career there. While pursuing my love of art though my expression on canvas, my art is an expression of my emotional energy and my hockey is an expression of my physical energy. My passion guides me through life and with paintbrushes and hockey sticks in hand I travel through my life documenting and experiencing.
